Companies are still hiring good professionals Ram K. Agarwal, Director, Ernst & Young India Private Limited.
"It's true that many corporate firms are reducing their work force in order to protect their resources. But in this tough time, some companies are still hiring good professionals. They are in great demand of skilled work force. As my company is associated with a large number of corporate firms, I have noticed that job cuts have only affected the lower level. At senior and mid-level segment everything is kept intact. Many prospective sectors like retail, telecom, infrastructure, IT and manufacturing industry are hiring good professionals. Especially retail has a huge demand of people. In recession time, some companies are still on a lookout for good professionals and hiring people in their firms. They want to best utilise the ongoing crisis. To me, this job cut has more become a psychological phenomenon than a real problem to the industry.
To build a good human resource for a company is a huge task and no management would prefer to lose it so easily which they'd built over a long period of time. It's the last option any company would try as you cannot build good man power overnight. It requires so much of time and constructive efforts. And those who are associated with the company, are accustomed with the environment and requirement for the organisation. If you throw them off one fine morning, it's really difficult to get the replacement. I hope as soon as the economic scenario in the US and Europe gets better, our economy will also recover from the recession phase. "
